Smartphones may or may not be evil - depending on whom you ask.
Some studies show people spend too much time on their phones
which negatively impacts their mental health. Others claim it's
how people feel about their use more than the use itself.
A recent study in PLOS found that "smartphone screen time was
correlated with choosing smaller immediate over larger delayed
rewards and that usage of social media and gaming apps predicted
delay discounting. Additionally, smartphone use was negatively
correlated with self-control but not correlated with
consideration of future consequences."
It was a small sample with usage data from 101 participants,
however anything smartphone related is interesting to me. Their
conclusion is "smartphone use and impulsive decision-making go
hand in hand and that engagement with these devices needs to be
critically examined by researchers to guide prudent behavior."
What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree and why?

Another cloud-based software service experienced an outage over
the last couple of days disrupting worker productivity as
employees showed up to work on a Monday morning.
Two questions:
1. How do you prep your end users for the possibility that their

2. What options has your organization used to ensure that your
employees can remain productive even without access to their
cloud-based tools?
Requirements:
Looking to put together various alternatives and other ideas for
enterprise companies to survive either a short or long-term
outage of their cloud-based productivity suite.

remain productive and then get offline data synched back to the
primary cloud-based tools after the outage.

This story will introduce SMB and general readers to Decision

overly technical, in other words).
I'm looking for analysts, consultants, academics, AI and
analytics pros and other experts to explain what it is, how it's
different, why use this approach, and how to do it (from the

I am working on a story for SearchDataManagement looking at what
data fabrics mean for data lakes. I am looking for sources that
can weigh in on the following question via email. Note the
deadline is just the deadline for identifying sources. I have a
bit more time on this, especially for end users.
-What have been some of the limitations of traditional data lake
architectures, particularly those relevant to thinking about the
benefits of data fabrics? -What are some of the most important
ways they can make it easier to reuse data across different
analytics and applications? -How would you break down the
different types of approaches to using data fabrics to improve
data lakes and the pros and cons of each approach? -What are
some of the top new benefits data lakes can provide as a result
of data fabrics?
Also, I am looking for users to weigh in on the following:
-What's one important use case you have worked on where you were
able to improve the value of a data lake using a data fabric.
Could you elaborate on what was involved in setting it up, some
of the challenges you encountered, benefits, and lessons you
learned along the way? -How do you use a data fabric to model
data in a way that's useful for different use cases? How does
thinking about using the data fabric to create a semantic model
of the data change based on the type of use case?
Thanks in advance, George

COAST Autonomous, a self-driving technology company providing
mobility solutions to move people and goods at appropriate
speeds in urban and campus environments, is looking for guests
to interview for video podcasts.
We're looking for thought leaders in the autonomous vehicle
space to give some perspectives as guests on our video podcast,
speaking specifically to...
a) cutting edge uses of autonomous vehicles b) strategies for
implementing and maximizing autonomous technologies c) how
businesses in the following spaces are or will using/use AVs:
aviation, universities, cities
For context, here's more information on COAST:
COAST was established to build community by connecting people
with mobility solutions that put pedestrians first and give
cities back to people. However, COAST technology is also ideal
for private sites. COAST has developed a proprietary 6-Level
Autonomous Vehicle (AV) system that includes mapping and
localization, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), fleet
management and supervision. Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) COAST
can provide a variety of AVs to offer MaaS solutions to cities,
theme parks, campuses, airports, rail yards, and other private
sites. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) COAST can also provide SaaS
solutions to vehicle manufacturers looking to offer autonomous
fleets to their customers. COAST engineers will work with the
manufacturer to convert their vehicles to "by-wire", install
perception sensors and AV software, followed by a rigorous
testing program."
Requirements:
Guests should be well-versed in AV technologies, and even better
would be guests who can speak to the key markets where COAST
deploys its solutions: aviation, universities, cities.
