Hello. My name is Erik Martin and I am a reporter for HomeStyle,
a nationally syndicated home improvement/design section
published weekly in newspapers across the country (visit

interview HVAC experts, smart thermostat professionals,
remodelers, and other home improvement experts for the following
story:
Improve your smart thermostat IQ. This article will suggest
effective ways to better use your smart thermostat and save
money on energy costs, including purchase a model with
temperature sensors, set the right schedule, use home or away
notifications, set smart home rules, track your energy usage,
and more. Below is a list of questions I'm seeking answers to. I
can only accept written responses via email. My deadline is noon
central, Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
QUESTIONS: 1. Why is it a good idea to purchase and install a
smart thermostat these days? What are the benefits? 2. How have
smart thermostats improved in recent years over earlier models
in any way? 3. Why is it important to carefully program and set
up your smart thermostat so that you can save the most money on
energy bills? 4. Please suggest at least a few helpful tips on
how to best use your smart thermostat to save money and work
more efficiently (e.g., purchase a model with temperature
sensors; set the right schedule; use home or away notifications;
set smart home rules; track your energy usage; etc.). This is
the heart of my story, so please provide several detailed tips
here. 5. What is important for homeowners to keep in mind and
consider carefully when it comes to setting realistic
expectations for their smart thermostat? 6. Any other thoughts,
