Deadline: 11:00 AM EST - 11 November

Query:

Mexico's fintech industry is booming, but I'm looking for people
with knowledge of changes in financing behavior due to the
impact of COVID-19.

The global recession is forcing all companies to tighten their
belts and investors, VCs etc. are now all moving ahead with
greater caution.

- How has COVID-19 changed access to funding for fintech
startups (ideally in Mexico, Latin America or N.America)?

- How are Mexico's (or North America/Latin America's) fintech
and financial start ups expanding their efforts to find funding?

- What are the challenges that the current environment provides
for funding?

- What have been the most obvious changes in investor behavior
fintechs and start up financial institutions you the pandemic
began?

- Will there be a return to "normal" investment interests in the
short or medium-term future? If not, then how do you see funding
changing going forward?

- What are the ways that fintech companies can work around
shortfalls in funding? For example, cost-reduction measures.

Many thanks!

Requirements:

Ideally someone in Mexico, though I'd also be interested to hear
from anyone in North America and Latin America.

8) Summary: "Using Your Retirement Funds to Start A New Career – A Great Idea or Risky Business?"

Name: Judy Mandell ny times

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-biu7@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: ny times

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 10 November

Query:

I am proposing an article to the New York Times titled "Using
Your Retirement Funds to Start A New Career - A Great Idea or
Risky Business?" Most financial experts advise clients to
never withdraw money from their retirement funds. Yet some
advisors say there are many benefits to investing their
retirement assets into a business - their own or that of someone
else. An IRS tax strategy called ROBS
(rollovers-as-business-startups) allows people to roll their
retirement savings into a new business without incurring early
withdrawal fees or tax penalties, at the same time protecting
their personal credit.

I am looking for people who started a business with funds from
the IRAs - I want good, bad, and ugly stories.

I will also interview business school professors and other
financial experts. I will ask them to e-mail answers to these
questions for starters.

What are the IRS ROBS rules?

Is this, in fact, risky business?

Why? or Why not?

What types of businesses would be the safest investments?

Are small businesses (what is the definition of a small
business?) riskier that large firms?

If so, why?

Is doing this less risky for young people, who may have already
built up a nest eg? Is it better to invest in your own idea
rather than acquiring someone else's business? How would
someone go about doing this? From an investment standpoint,
what are biggest problems with investing retirement money in a
private business?

What are the pros for investing in new business or other private
equity with your retirement account?

What are the cons in using your retirement account or a portion
thereof in a new business?

What about psychological components of starting a business?
How do you choose the best financial advisor to help you through
the complex IRS rules and paperwork? What about the latest
data/studies?

16) Summary: How should companies retrain staff for new roles?

Name: Esther Schindler The Economist

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-bik1@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: The Economist

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 11 November

Query:

I'm writing an article on how to effectively re-train workers.
I'd like to hear from you particularly if you have a management,
human resources, or training background.

This article is a "how to" for the process of giving workers
entirely new skill sets and moving them into different roles.
The worker can't do this anymore, and you want to move them to
something better. (This can be for any of several reasons, from
automation to a corporate division closing. We take that as the
starting point, and we don't have to say why it matters.)

You don't want to lose loyal employees, and you know that it's
cheaper to re-train than to hire someone new. I aim to write a
short, practical "things you need to do" article explaining how
to make this process effective for the company, and happy new
opportunities for workers.

In short: What works -- and what doesn't?

If your company re-trains people for new roles, tell me how you
go about it. * What is the overall process? Please be
specific. Who decides which workers are trained for each
position? How? Is this done internally or by sending employees
for external training? * What about mindset skills, such as
flexibility, problem-solving, and critical thinking? Analysts
suggest that these are key for workforce health, but how do you
improve these? * What overall advice would you offer someone
(particularly in a larger organization) who wants to take care
of their people _and_ move the company forward? What did you
learn the hard way? * Tell me a story about a successful
experience, including who/what/when/where.

I DO NOT WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME so please pay attention to this
criteria: This is NOT about how to repurpose a single
individual's energy (e.g. a CIO friend successfully moved an IT
worker to marketing based on her aptitude, with a happy result
for all). Nor is it about training an individual with a new
skill (say, PhotoShop or public speaking) to move ahead in the
same career path. And please leave out the "I trained myself!"
stories; they're a tangent. And yes, I KNOW that plenty of
companies just lay people off rather than retrain them; we can
leave those out of the discussion, too. This is meant to be a
useful how-to to guide companies that want to do it _right_, so
I am interested in practical advice.

Make sure you tell me how to refer to you in the article: name,
title/role, company, brief company description. Email only. Do
not even suggest a phone call.

Requirements:

Email only. No phone calls.

Ideally someone in academia, HR, training, exec management.
