One story that really hit me a few months back was the rise in
suicides that have emerged since the lockdown began. For
example, I read in Tennessee that suicides outpaced COVID
deaths. It made me wonder about our need for human contact and

get? In a world where we can order anything, communicate with
anyone, and conduct all of our business without leaving the
comfort and safety of home, what are we missing?

As a side note, I wonder how much masks plays into this. If we
do manage to see real life people, masks reinforce the feelings
of separation. For me, walking through a grocery store of
cloth-covered faces has been very alienating.

I understand that much of the despair people feel right now is
multi-faceted--fear of COVID, politics, or any number of
personal issues--but are these fears amplified because we're
being kept apart? And if so, how do we cope?
