Category: Travel

Email: query-becw@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: BBC Travel

Deadline: 7:00 PM GMT - 20 October

Query:

Hi there,

For BBC Travel I would love to hear from any experts in Nigerian
culture/ sociologists/ scholars/ Nigerian travel writers who may
be able to weigh in on two topics:

1) Why are Nigerians such overachievers? I'd love to find some
insights as to why there is so much emphasis in Nigerian culture
to be educated/successful/etc. Are there any historical/
cultural reasons?

2) Doubling up words. Why are Nigerians in the habit of saying
words twice i.e. sharp sharp, scatter scatter, blow blow, today
today, cry cry, fear fear etc. Where does this linguistic trait
come from/ why?

Requirements:

I would love to hear from any Nigerian culture writers, travel
writers, scholars, sociologists. Please reply with an answer to
this query - I'll be in touch if I use your quote or have any
further questions. Thanks in anticipation.
