Now that many employees are working remotely some are
considering a potential new opportunity to turn isolation into
adventure--by going to vacation locations for extended periods
of time. After all, what difference does it make if they're
working from a beach in Puerto Rico or a house in the suburbs?
Or does it? Some companies are establishing policies requiring
employees working remotely to be available to come into a
physical work location, if requested, within a two-hour
timeframe. Others are viewing this flexibility as a way to offer
a new benefit to employees--with no additional costs. I'm
interested in hearing from HR professionals representing
employers on both sides of this issue. Are you aware of
employees considering, or taking advantage of, this option? Are
you creating, or do you have, policies requiring them to stay
relatively close to their assigned work location? Do you view
this as a potential benefit for employees? What are the
pros/cons/risks/rewards?
