1) Are travel fees on their way out? (The Washington Post)****************************

1) Summary: Are travel fees on their way out?Name: Chris Elliott The Washington Post
Category: TravelEmail: query-b83t@helpareporter.net
Media Outlet: The Washington Post
Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 4 September
Query:
I'm researching a story about the U.S. legacy airlines' recent
decision to rescind ticket change fees for domestic flights.
Some have declared that this is the beginning of the end of fees
in travel. I would love to hear from travelers, particularly
those who have some experience dealing with travel companies. Do
you think that the change fees are gone forever? Will airlines
and other companies remove other fees? Do you trust the airlines
when they say the fees are gone for good? From travel experts, I
would like to know if removing more fees is a sustainable move.
How can airlines, hotels, and other businesses continue to turn
a profit when a source of revenue, like fees, is gone? How
dependent is the travel industry on fees? Do you have any
specific insights (surveys, polls or other information) about
how much travel companies rely on fees? For companies that have
built their entire business model on fees, what's next? Will
fares rise?
