actively using the Internet of Things (IoT) to benefit customer
experience, improve workplace efficiency, and make better
decisions. I'm writing a short article for MIT Technology Review
explaining how this is happening in the real world - and I want
to include your story.
So tell me a one- or two-paragraph tale about the happy effects
that came from your use of IoT in the realm of connectivity
(collecting data across devices, etc.); data analysis (how IoT
enabled a smarter business choice or improved profitability);
application of the data collected (e.g. how it improved user
experience); or something that simply wouldn't have been
possible before. What did you do? Who benefited, in what way?
Ideally, it's something that makes me say, "That's cool!"
If you're a PR person, it's okay to suggest a story from your
client, but the storytelling is about the business change and is
not product focused. This is from the business users' point of
view. So I might write about how an IoT gizmo attached to a
baseball bat is giving coaches better info from which to
evaluate batters' performance (with a for-instance that'd make
baseball fans eyes light up), but it would have only a passing
mention to the product name. (And no, nothing about consumer
IoT. Don't even try. An IoT medical device might be more
comfortable for the patient, but in this case I'm interested in
the advantages to the doctor.)
Note that I need an actual _story_ about what changed for the
better; please don't spend time writing anything lofty about the
grand meaning of all this.
For extra credit: If you were involved in the IoT project,
answer, "What do you know now that you wish you knew at the
beginning of this project?" That may turn into a "tips" sidebar,
if I get enough practical advice.
