I'm doing a piece for Wyzant, a tutoring company, on what it's
really like to go from in-person to online classes. They want to
hear real student stories, and highlight any advice you have to
help others succeed.

Growing up, my dad was addicted to work. I didn't realize this
as a kid -- I thought that his work ethic was normal. That's
what successful people did -- they worked ALL the time. I
assumed that long hours and little work-life balance were just
the price of being successful. When he retired though, he found
it hard do "nothing."
This mentality -- that work is everything -- is engrained in our
culture. But it's not always healthy.
I'm looking to interview mental health experts and/or burnout
experts about work addiction, including how to spot it, why it
happens and what to do about it.
My preliminary questions are below, if you can answer them.
1. Tell me briefly about yourself and your expertise on this
topic.
2. What does work addiction look like?
3. Why does work addiction develop?
4. Why is it sometimes hard to recognize work addiction in
ourselves, even when we can spot it in others?
5. What kind of people are prone to work addiction? Is it
something you're more susceptible to if you grew up with it
modeled?
6. What can we do to combat work addiction and set healthy
boundaries between work and life?
7. What do you say to someone who feels like it isn't possible
to have work-life balance without being less successful?
Requirements:
Must be a mental health expert (psychologist, psychiatrist,
therapist, counselor) or burnout expert.
