Masturbation is extremely common--in fact a study shows that 92%
of men in America masturbate, and nearly half of women own a
vibrator. Further studies have found many benefits to
masturbation: it can benefit your immune system, release tension
and stress, and may decrease incidence of prostate cancer in
men. Doctors are always suggesting vegetables and exercise,
because they're proven ways to be healthy, but so is
masturbation. So why aren't they telling us to do it more?
With this in mind, I have a few questions for DOCTORS with
relevant focuses:
1. What are your thoughts on prescribing or suggesting a
patient masturbate? 2. Have you known any doctor (yourself or
otherwise) to do so? 3. Is this a violation of HIPAA rules,
ethical guidelines, rules of conduct, or no? 4. Understanding
the fraught nature of societal expectations surrounding
sexuality and masturbation, how do you handle patients who bring
up masturbation (whether they're a young person worried about
doing it too much or wanting to for the first time, or an older
person who feels it's necessary but benefit from it, or other
instances you can speak to)?
Requirements:
For this story I need doctors (and doctors only) who preferably
have experience with the subject of masturbation. Also doctors
that deal with sexual health, e.g. gynecologists, urologists,
psychiatrists (who can prescribe other medicines as well,)
infectious disease doctors, etc.
