Name: Mark Ellwood Bloomberg Businessweek
Category: GeneralEmail: query-b785@helpareporter.net
Media Outlet: Bloomberg Businessweek
Deadline: 10:00 AM EST - 1 September
Query:
I'm working on a package for Bloomberg Business Week about
limited editions - but a very specific form of them: ones
produced using raw materials that are, in some way, absolutely
finite. There was a flurry of excitement in shoemaking circles
15 years ago with the launch of a limited edition range from New
& Lingwood: belts, shoes and accessories made from Russia Calf
leather,. Its source: a shipwreck on the floor of the Baltic,
dating back to the 1780s. The leather had been wrapped in seal
hide, so had survived two-plus centuries on the ocean floor; the
supply, then, was 100% limited - just 1,200 sq foot of leather,
total.
It was the ultimate prize: there was no risk, after the fact, of
the firm launching a second "limited edition" of the same item,
and so diluting the exclusivity of that first batch. It's a
reminder of how often companies artificially limited editions to
juice interest. The Russia Calf range, for example, has been
discontinued, as there's no more leather left.
But what about products that are limited because the supply of
raw materials is running out or definitively limited? We want to
showcase them in this package.
I'd like to hear, specifically, about products in the following
categories: fashion, jewelry, automotive, boats, sports. We will
consider other categories, but our focus is on these five areas
above all.
For example - A suiting range offered from dead stock fabric
discovered in a Savile Row basement? - A sweater woven from
yarn produced in the 19th century from the fleece of a
now-extinct breed of sheep or goat? - Coats made from fabric
that cannot be reproduced because the looms on which it was once
woven have been broken up? - A fragrance that was produced by a
famous perfumer, but whose recipe has been lost - so the last
few bottles are the final ones that will ever be available
produced personally by that nose? - Cars that are upholstered
in leather salvaged from scrapped Ford Model Ts, and
painstakingly restored for use in a reproduction? - A leather
football where panels are made from balls which were once used
on the Superbowl field? - A range of jewelry produced using
rubies from a mine that no one even knows the location of, now?
You get the idea.
I'd also be very open to other products that have been retrieved
from shipwrecks, including wines, champagnes or hard liquor, and
which remain palatable and are for sale. Overall, I want to
explore the idea of limited editions that are created not by
marketing, but by the fact that one or more of the source
materials or components is finite. It could be running out or
constrained for many reasons, whether shipwrecks or broken
looms, but the key is that there is a component to a product
that is, for some reason, impossible to replicate once the
current stock is used up.
Requirements:
Please send me a single para pitch with the name of the product
and a brief description. Please also make clear what component
element is finite, and make clear as to why. I'd also like a
hotlink to images but no attachments, please. ALL EMAILS WITH
ATTACHMENTS WILL BE DELETED UNOPENED. Please mark subject line:
LIMITED EDITIONS Reply directly to this email, rather than
emailing me via other methods. NO ATTACHMENTS, please, as they
gum up my inbox. If you are submitting more than one idea,
please do so in separate emails.

Deadline: 1:00 PM EST - 2 September
Query:
Hello. My name is Erik Martin, and I am a reporter for Real
Estate Weekly, a nationally syndicated section published weekly
in newspapers across the country (visit
tinyurl.com/ejmctwfeatures for samples). I'm looking to
interview flood insurance experts, real estate agents, insurance
industry spokespersons, real estate faculty/professors, and
other relisted experts for the following story: Don't think you
need flood insurance? Think again. According to the results of
Policygenius' new Homeowners Insurance Literacy Survey
(https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/policygenius-survey-finds-widespread-confusion-about-homeowners-insurance-301098188.html),
many Americans don't understand the basics of homeowners
insurance -- and more than half of homeowners surveyed (53.3%)
don't realize that a typical policy doesn't cover floods. This
means scores of people could be underprotected when it comes to
home insurance -- which could prove particularly detrimental in
light of the busy 2020 hurricane season forecasted by the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This piece will
share the study's findings and provide suggestions from experts
on why and when flood insurance is needed and recommended and
how to get it. I can accept written responses (full-sentences
that I can use as quotes) via email to the following questions.
My deadline is noon central, Wednesday, September 2.
QUESTIONS: 1. What did you find interesting, surprising, or
unexpected about any of the aforementioned study's findings and
why? 2. Why do you believe so many Americans don't understand
the basics of homeowners insurance, especially regarding flood
insurance coverage? What factors are behind these trends? 3.
Please explain how flood insurance works, including the national
flood insurance program as well as coverage by private carriers.
Explain what is covered and what is not typically. 4. Who do you
recommend should get flood insurance and why? Why should even
those homeowners who don't live in FEMA flood zones consider
getting flood insurance? 5. What kind of flood insurance and
levels of coverage you recommend for: (a) a homeowner in a
designated flood zone; and (B) a homeowner not located in a
flood zone? 6. What do homeowners need to consider carefully and
do regarding shopping for flood insurance? What should they
avoid here? 7. How much can flood insurance cost for those in a
designated flood zone versus those not in a flood zone? Please
provide a price range for both scenarios. 8. Overall, why is
purchasing flood insurance a good investment, even if you are
not located in a flood zone or area prone to flooding,
especially considering that extreme weather events are
increasingly happening year-to-year? 9. Any other thoughts, tips
or suggestions on this topic? 10. What is your full name, title,
company, city/state location, and email address?

Hello. My name is Erik Martin, and I am a reporter for Real
Estate Weekly, a nationally syndicated section published weekly
in newspapers across the country (visit

interview residential property investors, landlords, real estate
agents, attorneys, financial experts/planners, and other real
estate experts for the following story:
Beat the pandemic-induced landlord blues: Got property to lease?
Shift from short-term to long-term rentals. New data (new study
results forthcoming) suggest that more landlords are ditching
Airbnb and other short-term rental platforms/plans for long-term
rentals. This article will suggest why this could be a smart
idea and how to implement such a strategy if you are currently a
landlord or plan to be one. I can accept written responses
(full-sentences that I can use as quotes) via email to the
following questions. My deadline is noon central, Wednesday,
September 2.
QUESTIONS: 1. Do you have any data/recent study findings that
suggest that more landlords are shifting from short-term rentals
too long-term rentals? If so, please cite the source and provide
links. 2. Why do you believe more landlords could be shifting
from short-term too long-term rentals? What factors could be
behind this trend - including the effects of the coronavirus and
the economic downturn? 3. Do you believe that more landlords
should consider shifting away from short-term rentals to
longer-term rentals due to current economic conditions? Why/why
not? What are the pros and cons of short-term rentals right now
versus long-term rentals? 4. What tips/detailed steps can you
recommend to landlords to help them shift from short-term
rentals to longer-term rentals? How can they achieve this with
minimal risk? What do they need to do? 5. Who are good
candidates for this strategy and why? What kind of rental
properties are also good candidates for this strategy and why?
6. Do you believe that short-term rentals will bounce back
quicker than many experts anticipate? Or is this segment of the
market going to be negatively impacted for longer than many
expect? 7. What advice would you give to a prospective real
estate investor/prospective landlord right now? Should they be
postponing or reconsidering their strategies to purchase rental
properties in any way? 8. Any other thoughts, tips or
