I'm a journalist just beginning to research a story on the
dangers of unnecessary hysterectomies, which includes
depression, anxiety, serious health issues, and even suicide.
The media hasn't covered this topic much in the past so I'm
looking to write a large feature about this that focuses on the
stories of one or two women who have faced these sorts of issues
after their hysterectomy--especially if that hysterectomy was
"elected" and not life-saving. (However, I do recognize that
doctors often make hysterectomies seem vital when they are not,
or have women "elect" to have this surgery even though it's
being pushed on them, so I understand that putting it in these
words can seem ignorant).
I understand that this sounds crass, but I'm particularly in
search of stories about women who have died by suicide after
this procedure. This is a major issue that is severely
under-covered, and I think that going to the extreme can help
spread awareness. In other words, telling the story of a woman
who took her own life as the result of an unnecessary
hysterectomy could potentially help save the lives of other
women who are unaware of the problems associated with this
procedure. That is my hope for this article.
So, with all of that said, if you, a family member, a friend, or
a patient has (or had) mental health-related issues after a
hysterectomy (be it anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, or
suicide itself) and feel comfortable speaking to me, please do.
I promise to offer a sympathetic ear and to respect your
boundaries--I won't push you for more information than you're
comfortable giving.

construction.
Think something like, "My degree has helped me by..." or "I
recommend studying construction management because..." as if
you're speaking to a prospective student.

TOPIC: Seeking a conversation that is both philosophical and
practical on the topic of: Could I be wrong?
ANGLE: Teaching ourselves or otherwise learning to ask this of
ourselves as individuals (and organizations alike).
THE WHAT: a brief email interview.
PUBLICATIONS: this will be for Red Diamonds Features, the weekly
Red Diamonds Newsletter, quite possibly a LinkedIn piece or an
online magazine if I can interest them in the piece.
DISTRIBUTION: I publish on the Medium platform and share on
LinkedIn (5700 contacts, 6300 followers) and Twitter (500+). You
are also welcome to share the article and newsletter however you
might or might not wish.
BACKGROUND: I have been a newspaper and radio reporter and
freelance writer. I launched the newsletter in Sept. 2019 and
have published 47 issues and interviewed 80 people to date. I
started Red Diamonds Features in late April and have written 47
features from interviews.
DEADLINE: I am seeking to secure a source (you) by Friday, send
the interview questions by email and receive your replies by
Sunday afternoon, CST, so I can write Sunday night and publish
next week.
SEEKING: a quality source who is responsive and help me meet the
aforementioned deadline. I will also request a professional
photo (not too small or excessively large, in focus) to upload
with the article and then in the newsletter.
