For decades, investors have been told to assess their "risk
tolerance." While this may be relevant in some circumstances,
it's less important than long-term return for retirement savers.
This represents a financial literacy hurdle that only
consistently applied education can overcome. Please email your
answers to the following questions before the deadline. Answers
should be short, to the point, and quotable - 1-2 sentences at
25 words per answer. PR folks, no solicitations please because
we get too many to respond. Just have your clients email their
answers.

1) How did investors get hooked on "risk tolerance"?

2) Under what circumstances can "risk tolerance" be a
dangerously misleading metric?

3) When and why is long-term return a much more appropriate
concern for retirement savers than "risk tolerance"?

4) How do you re-educate retirement savers to accept that "risk
tolerance" is less important than they'd been led to believe?

5) What is the best way to show the importance of long-term
return"

6) How can retirement savers identify their goal-oriented target
(i.e., long-term return objective?

7) Why are savings metrics (when you start, how long you save,

Category: Business and Finance

Media Outlet: Pro Athlete Direct

Deadline: 3:00 PM PST - 1 September

Query:

The stock market selloff (triggered by COVID-19) has bounced
back hard off the March lows...

There is still uncertainty of the long term impact of COVID on
investors (savings, retirement preparing and retirement), right?

As we study "what" the elite financial advisors are doing, right
now, to best take care of their clients (& prospects) during
this unprecedented time... We are taking an in-depth look into
the importance of connections (current connections & new ones)
to do this.

The preface: To have any client, a connection, initially, is
required (connections are the common denominator every client
has). These connections lead to: >new
relationships>referrals>clients>new AUM for financial advisors.

Around the need for financial advisors to immediately increase
their connections to help more investors get thru COVID (while
growing their client base & AUM), we have 2 questions for you
(your answer(s) can be a couple of sentences or much longer
explanations):

1.) What is the most unique way you CONNECTED with 1 of your 25
top clients OR what is a key way you make new connections in
this environment?

2.) How do you open yourself up to your top 25 clients to make
it easy for them to CONNECT you with their current relationships
(family, friends, social media)?

Answer just 1 of the 2 or both.

BTW, we are posting this story online* Wednesday at 7 AM PDT.

In the story, we will include your reply AND your: name, firm,
city location, specialization (tax strategy, hedging
concentrated equity positions, etc.), favorite quote you live
by, head shot (if you choose) (OR you can choose to be anonymous
in the post).

We look forward to hearing from you on this (BTW, no answer is a
bad answer).

Chicago, New York, SF, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Tampa, LA, San

32) Summary: Careers Now column ?s: gig job challenge; working abroad

Name: Kathleen Furore Tribune Publishing Company

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-b7hh@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: Tribune Publishing Company

Deadline: 4:00 PM EST - 1 September

Query:

I have two questions for upcoming Careers Now column:

1. Gig work--which has been on the upswing for several
years--has become an even bigger part of the employment picture
due to the pandemic. While there are many benefits, newcomers to
the freelance world often face challenges they've never
confrontede. One came to light recently, when an acquaintance
told me about a gig job she was working on. Her client had
suggested several changes to the project--but she didn't think
the requested changes represented what the end client (her
client's client) wanted. She was stumped about what to do. She
didn't want to turn in something that didn't represent her best
work, and in her mind didn't serve the best interest of the
either client. But she needed the work and hoped to continue
with gig projects for the company. Suggestions?

2. A recent report from PwC revealed that 71% of millennials
want to work abroad at some point in their careers. It probably
shouldn't have--but it surprised me that that number was so high
... and it made me wonder what things not only millennials but
anyone who is considering working abroad should consider before
they make that move.

41) Summary: Clienteling and Secret Sales

Name: Mark Ellwood Business Insider

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-b7js@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: Business Insider

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 2 September

Query:

Clienteling is a secretive tactic in luxury retail: big spending
customers at most major luxury brands will be treated as VIPs,
of course, with their own dedicated salesperson; what many folks
don't realize is that those same customers also get access to
sales before the signs go up in the store. They'll be contacted
a week or more before price breaking and offered the chance to
shop, incognito at a discount, while everyone else pays full
price. There are lots of clever mechanics used for it - at one
shoe store, a staffer told me, there was a color coded system of
dots on the soles, which indicated to those in-the-know whether
something was on sale, while other shoppers milled around them
unawares. It's always happened, but its more common now than
ever and will likely accelerate given the backlog of inventory
created by the pandemic lockdown/economic slowdown. This piece
will look at clienteling, secret sales and how it operates as a
"shadow (shopping) economy" right in front of our eyes. We want
to explore this strategy, and explain why it works for
retailers; I'd also love to find out if there are any companies
or consultants who specialize in helping brands finesse their
clienteling strategies. We also want to understand what
clienteling/secret sales will look like as lockdowns ease and
hear from an expert or two on why clienteling/secret sales are
important in general and/or in a post lockdown world.

I'd like to hear from retail experts (professors, authors,
consultants) who can unpack this idea, and address some of the
questions above, as well as from luxury brands who can share how
and why this approach works for them.

Please send me a single para pitch, and mark the subject line:

42) Summary: ESLs & Dynamic Retail Pricing

Name: Mark Ellwood Business Insider

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-b7jt@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: Business Insider

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 2 September

Query:

ESL or electronic shelf labeling is primed to transform the way
we shop IRL - it will bring dynamic, rideshare-style pricing to
any store, from a supermarket to a home improvement warehouse.

These remote-controlled labels allow stores to change the cost
of anything at the push of a button, whether that's a weekly
sale, a price adjustment as raw costs rise, or simply surge
pricing at certain times. There are cost advantages to ESLs,
since supermarkets and other brick and mortar sightsno longer
need to pay for paper shelf-talkers. But there's a bigger goal,
too: nudging consumers into comfort with that surge, or dynamic,
pricing. If those numbers displayed can change on a whim, you
could make milk or wine pricier just after work, or sandwiches
cheaper at 3pm. Indeed, some companies have already trialed such
approaches - see one airport retailer, where prices on alcohol
were adjusted per the nationality of those who had just landed -
Germans would pay more for beer, for instance, while Japanese
people would pay more for whisky. Another idea: social shopping,
where people could check in on a certain ESL tag, and encourage
friends to do so, too - if enough folks checked in together,
they would unlock a discount for the entire group. I'd like to
hear from companies that specialize in ESLs, who can explain how
and why their system is the best, as well as from a client or
two on the retail side who can share stories of why it works.
I'd love to also hear from an expert on why we might see more of
this in the future and how it could be a benefit to retailers.
