Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the supply chain
and productivity disruption that ensued, every day we're seeing
headlines in the business pages that say essentially the same
thing -- that 2020 has been a banner year for ESG investing.
While many of these articles particularly highlight the
importance of the "S" for Social (and the S is important), some
also highlight the "E" for Environmental.
So what next for the "E"?
Will this sentiment lose momentum once the virus has subsided?
Or will we see renewed focus on environmental issues, including
climate change (studies point to a connection between the
effects of climate change and deforestation and the rise of
infectious diseases)?
For an article on medium and the Measurabl website, I'm writing
an analysis piece looking at how companies will deal with ESG --
and particularly the E post-pandemic.
In short, is ESG disclosure more important than ever? And has
the pandemic made investors more scrupulous? (And is climate
change next in their sights?)
Requirements:
Looking for subject matter experts with strong insight in this
matter.

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 14 August
Query:
Wanted: very interesting people who are eager to open up
honestly in interviews and share their most fascinating stories,
for my 700-1,000 word "as told to" features on
Understandably.com and in some cases for additional coverage on
Inc.com. I know this sounds like a very broad request -- and it
is. Please just think about whether the story you want to share
is truly "very interesting," and if you're truly "eager to open
up honestly," and if you're comfortable with the "as told to"
format.
You might want to check out a couple of my past examples of
these kinds of stories, for example: https://murph.me/attex1 and
https://murph.me/attex2. Other upcoming editions include (a) a
woman who had gone through multiple rounds of IVF without
success only to have an unplanned child at age 43, (b) a man who
lost his sight around his 30th birthday then became a leading
advocate for the blind, (c) a woman who decided she'd had enough
of being a pessimist and trained herself for more than a year to
be an optimist.
Asking for these on HARO is an experiment, but if it works I'll
ask again as this is an ongoing series.
Requirements:
Very important ... Please *only* send the following: (a) your
name/email address, (b) whether you're writing on your own
behalf or for someone else, (c) a 100-200 word (max!) summary
of the story you have to share and why it's fascinating, (d)
optional: 1-2 links (max) where I can learn more info,
preferably other published stories, first-person accounts, etc.,
and (e) if you're looking for press because you're
pitching/selling something specific (like a product or a
business), maybe one link so I can understand it. The focus
here is 100% on sharing really interesting first-person stories
that help readers understand other people. If it looks like it
might be a fit for what I'm looking for, I'll follow up with
more information, and we can set a time for a phone or Zoom
interview.

Query:
We're looking for an executive to comment on a fictional case in
Harvard Business Review. The ideal person would be an executive
who has faced a decision to change a product, label, branding,
etc because it's been pointed out that it might be offensive. In
their commentary, they would advise what the fictional
protagonist of our case study should do and reference their own
experience with a similar dilemma.
In the fictional case, the protagonist is a manager of a whiskey
brand, which was founded in the early 19th century and named
after a slave of the original distiller. The brand manager
contemplates if and how to alter the brand amid the growing
global conversation about racism. While the whiskey hasn't yet
been called out for its problematic history on social media like
other products, the company's executives assume it's only a
matter of time and they want to be proactive. Do they need to
start from scratch and rebuild a new brand? Can they risk losing
the name recognition? Should they fold the whiskey into another
one of their popular brands? Or can they alter the name to
distance themselves from the product's racial implications? Or
is it possible -- or ethical -- to do nothing since their
research shows that those implications don't influence their
customers' buying habits?
Requirements:
Must be an executive willing to go on the record about your past
experience with re-branding decisions.
