1) Summary: What Do I Need to Know Before Taking a Road Trip?Category: Travel
Email: query-b36x@helpareporter.net
Media Outlet: Anonymous
Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 3 August
Query:
For people over 50, who might be taking a late summer or early
fall road trip, what do they need to do, take or know before
heading out? For example, should they be packing a safety kit
with masks, sanitizers, cleaning supplies for touch surfaces in
hotel rooms? We also need to inform them on who they need to
check with to ensure everything they want to do is open - state
and local authorities, CVBs, etc. Is camping and remote cabins
becoming more popular?
I need to speak with a travel expert next week, as well as
someone who went on a trip and prepared with a safety kit.
Please send a couple of tips and a short bio. Please, no product
pitches or photos.

For Travelocity, I'm putting together "The best weekend getaway
in all 50 states."
Road trips are having a MOMENT right now, and this is a road
trip story, with the concept being for each state, picking a
getaway within a half day's drive of every state's
largest/busiest metro area.
For this story, and in consideration of the terrible state this
country is currently in, I'm gearing it toward small towns,
state/national parks, beach destinations, desert getaways, etc.
(In fact, some itineraries will be more about the drive than the
destination.)
What I don't want to do is send people to big cities. So, for
example, if you're assuming Houston as the biggest/busiest metro
area in TX, for example, we wouldn't want to send them to
Austin, but rather somewhere that's not a big city.
Also, while I want to stay mostly within each state right now
because of all the really important travel restrictions out
there, it's okay for smaller states like Rhode Island and
Delaware if their road trip takes them across state lines.
If you have anything to pitch me that would work for any state,
please email me!). Open to travel expert commentary as well.
