full-blast? For this story, I would love to interview an

Viral videos of objects like Croc shoes, house plants and toilet
paper being sliced in half to reveal that they're actually
elaborately decorated cake. The absurdity of this phenomenon has
caused wide spread awe, with some people loving it and some
(like me) hating it. I must admit, it really makes me
uncomfortable to the point where I can't watch some of them
without cringing. But why, I wonder?
The question: why does seeing one thing turn out to be another
thing mess with our brains the way that it does? For me, the
same effect on my visual perception happens when I see a hyper
realistic computer rendering of a place that doesn't exist or a
picture of human being that turns out to be a robot.
In short: I need an explanation of the uncanny valley.
Requirements:
I need psychologists to quote for this story and/or scientists
who specialize in visual perception to explain why this freaks
the brain of some people out so much.
