then will be challenged to replicate their profession using
common materials found in the home, explaining the process as
they go. For this episode, a civil engineer specializing in
bridges will be asked to build a miniature bridge, spanning the
counters of their kitchen, using materials such as straws,
uncooked spaghetti, duct tape, etc. As they accomplish this,
they'll explain principles such as the strength of triangles in
building, how they think about weight loads, how suspension
transfers energy from the bridge to the cables, etc.
