Business and Finance

1) Summary: AMC & Universal Shorten Exhibition Window

Name: Daniel Litwin MarketScale

Category: Business and Finance

Email: query-b32d@helpareporter.net

Media Outlet: MarketScale

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 30 July

Query:

AMC and Universal just locked down a deal to shorten the window
of exclusivity AMC theaters have on showcasing Universal films.
The window will shrink from 90 days to 17 days, and will
supposedly allow partners to share the profits from movies
distributed to video-on-demand (VOD) platforms.

I'd like to source several professionals from the film and
exhibition industries for a compilation video, fielding thoughts
on a set of questions around the financial and strategic impacts
to cinema. Cinema owners, operators, or industry experts are
welcome to chime in.

Here are the main questions I plan on asking:

Do you think AMC/Universal's new 17-day window to VOD will help
or harm the exhibition industry? Why/why not? Do you think the
new release window will spread to other big players and become a
staple of the industry post-COVID? Why/why not? How should
cinemas large and small strategize to stay afloat mid-COVID?

Requirements:

I'm looking for anyone with detailed thoughts from the
exhibition space or a tangential market. Mainly, I'd like to
hear from cinema owners, operators, investors or industry
experts.
